J & So

I have started to study jewelery making! It is within a silver and goldsmithing school. I am working with brass, copper and aluminium until my skills are trustworthy enough to make something precious :P So far I have looked at a lot of rings, and everytime I walk past a jewelery store, I window shop with a new understanding of how much time, labour and skill is required to make such tantalising objects. I also never realised how many shops were devoted to shiny things! For those who known me a little longer, you will recall that I did do some pieces in silver a very long time ago. So it has been really nice to revisit that, and also a big surprise how hard it is to do. It took me hours to make eight rings and solder them together! I am also doing some work with found object. I got a couple of boxes each containing Great Gross of Hooks and Eyes, from a charity shop in Edinburgh. I love the shapes. I started to experiment with linking them into chains and bracelets. My love deepened when I added tiny antique brass jump rings. I am inspired to use them to creates a neo-Victorian look in a larger Steampunk piece! Here are some of my very firsts. XX
